You’re Thinking Too Much!

Events may create physical pain, but they do not in themselves create suffering. Resistance creates suffering. Stress happens when your mind resists what is… The only problem in your life is your mind’s resistance to life as it unfolds. ”

This weekend something very profound was said to me and I took it to heart. The statement was simply, “get out your own head”.
In other words, quit resisting.
The reason I took it to heart is because I know that I resist change. I know that even when I think I want a particular outcome I am subconsciously doing things to try to prevent it.
I’m thinking too much.
I see this all the time with my clients looking to lose weight and especially when they are trying to lose weight quickly.
Too much effort is spent on thinking about:
-if they’re eating too many calories
-if they’re eating too little calories
-if the workout is optimal for fast fat loss
-if they’re sweating enough
-if they should add in additional cardio
-if they’re drinking enough water
-if they’re drinking too much coffee
-if there is a supplement they should be taking
-if fish oil is increasing their daily calories too much
-if they’re getting too little protein
-if they’re getting too much protein
-if they lost enough weight last week
The list can really go on and on. It is endless.
And all of these questions are resistance. They are putting up a wall and subconsciously preventing progress. They’re thinking too much.
And I’ve done it all too often. I still do it. I do it in my business, in my personal life, I do it with my diet and I do it with my workouts. The problem is every time I ask myself these questions I’m just slowing down progress.
After all, I’m doing things that have been proven time and time again to work. The actions in my business are all from a proven playbook laid out by my business coach. My diet and workout has shown to get results with countless clients.
Yet I still want to fight it. I still try to hold back. I am resisting. I need to trust the plan and just move forward with action. The results will take care of themselves.

Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”

I need to have faith and I need to “get out of my own head”.
So how do I do this, and more importantly how do you do this?
The first thing really is being aware of it. It’s okay to ask questions or to be skeptical but you won’t be successful at any endeavor until you eventually stop being skeptical about it and just take action. Take proven actions with faith that it is going to work out.
By being aware of it, I can stop myself when I get into that “resistance mode”. I can redirect my thoughts to following my action steps.
The best way I know to do this is meditation. A daily practice of meditation allows for a brain clearing and allows you to focus all your thoughts on moving forward.
It doesn’t have to be a complicated practice. Meditation can be as simple as 10 minutes in a comfortable chair thinking of nothing. Completely clearing your head. Or you can spend 10 minutes listing off everything you are grateful for in your life. Anything to stop you from thinking thoughts of resistance.
In the end, just press forward with action. Find a plan from a trusted source and just do it.
Get out of your own head!
